This drawing was created in Canada on a residency at Kingsbrae Gardens.

St Andrews by the Sea. New Brunswick.

I saw a few of these birds from my Studio. The intense blue in the feathers is due to the melanin in their feathers which is actually brown. The blue colour is caused by scattering light through modified cells on the surface of the feather edges.
